TOM PRICE

Outstanding - Evening News

Fresh-faced comedian stroke actor Tom Price is getting big and is going to be a lot bigger. Not happy with an award-winning start to his stand-up career, Tom Price also gets to fight aliens alongside John Barrowman and co in Torchwood, the popular "adult" spin-off from Doctor Who. Tom Price also got to play comic giant (literally in many ways) John Cleese in the biopic of Cleese's fellow Python Graham Chapman A Very Naughty Boy. Now 29, comedian Tom Price has been a regular on the UK comedy circuit for nine years, where he has won over audiences with charm, foppery and a fine line in trousers - and an even better line in laughter. Dressed to impress but looking like a cross between uber-fop Hugh Grant and Ben Fogle, Tom Price would look equally at home on Country File or in a remake of Tom Brown's Schooldays. Not ashamed of his own schooldays and public school background, comedian Tom Price bounds on stage with boyish enthusiasm and wide-eyed, toothy grin and proceeds to regale the crowds with tales of his posh upbringing, boarding school, class clashes, and an assumed genial naivety about "real life" and popular culture - all in a terribly posh dialect, but with a wicked side that keeps the laughter rolling and the audience thinking.

And whether he's laughing at them, himself or the whole world, the audiences lap it up. As either compere or guest comic, his warm and inclusive nature as he works the crowd is amazing for someone who looks so young. And it has been recognised too. Top stand-up Tom Price reached the final of the Daily Telegraph Open Mic in 2001, and in 2002 was a finalist in both the Take the Mic and the Paramount New Act of the Year comedy competitions. He didn't win any of them, but then Tom would not like to be thought of as greedy.
A man of many talents, Tom Price is equally at home as a sketch show comedian or comic actor. One of the stars of Five comedy sketch show Swinging and both Destination Three and The Wrong Door for BBC Three. He also starred in three series of Radio 4's acclaimed comedy series Rigor Mortis, where he plays Gordon, a hopeless drunken shambles of a doctor, alongside Peter Davison and Geoffrey Whitehead. As a straight actor, he has appeared on and off as PC Andy Davidson, an old friend of Gwen Owen in three series of Torchwood also played the role of Darrin Stephens in the new UK remake of Bewitched. But perhaps Tom Price’s greatest role is as the voice of Monkey in the PG Tips advert alongside Jonny Vegas or as the bloke sitting on the floor on the Cadbury's indent before Coronation Street. When not working, Tom Prices interests include looking cute, books, films, golf, detox, praying, yoga and fighting robbers. Not all of these are true.
