SMUG ROBERTS

Smug Roberts Star of TV, Film and Radio and the man behind Grandad Roberts and Meat Pie Sausage Roll.

He started out at the Frog and Bucket in Manchester, broke through as a headline act in 2000 after being asked by Dom Ward to join a star studded line up at Manchester's Comedy Store opening night.

He has continued to headline at all the major comedy clubs since then.

Last year, he was living the dream in America when he played the Laughter Factory in New York.

This year he will tour his One Man comedy show in the UK.

A legend on the comedy scene for the night he turned pied piper and led 70 punters from the Frog and Bucket onto the Metro link and an evening at a social club in Bowker Vale. Now that's what I call an alternative night out (M.E.N)

Comedian Smug Roberts stepped on stage for the first time with no script, no gags, a stage name he had picked out of thin air a few minutes before and no plan beyond getting off stage without 'dying'. Amazingly a star was born.

The line up on the Manchester Comedy Store opening night included the like of Paul Merton, Julian Clary and John Thompson, yet the night was stolen by our very own Smug Roberts (M.E.N)

There is a world of difference between seeing a comedian and watching a comedy act. A comedian tells funny stories armed with nothing more than a microphone and his or hers quick wits. A comedy act however expands the parameters of a stand up routine blurring the distinction between comedy and theatre, entertainment and performance.

Smug Roberts is the latest in a long line of performers from Manchester who use dramatic techniques to broaden the scope of their acts, like Steve Coogan, Johnny Vegas and Caroline Aherne, Smug is as much an actor as he is a comedian
