RHYS DARBY

A self-styled ''wavy haired loon from down under', New Zealander Rhys Darby's genre-breaking, boundary leaping blend of sound effects, characterizations and askew observations have been reducing international audiences to a state of bewildered hysteria since he launched himself onto the world circuit in 2002.

By combining stand-up story telling with physical theatre Rhys has developed a truly unique style of comedy performance. One of the most sought after live acts in his country, regularly scooping the nation's top awards. More than simply a stand-up, he has been described by The Guardian as ''a one-man special effect''. A prolific comedy playwright, he has written and performed in six plays since 2000, with titles like, The Dog Show, Rolling Stoned, Let's Get Physical, You Only Laugh Twice and Jekyll and Hyde 2030AD, the last of which went down a storm at Edinburgh in 2004.

Much in demand on radio and TV, he hosted 100 Greatest Cartoons ever for Channel 4 and Weekend Backchat for Sky. You can also catch him in the lead role in the cult hit science fiction Toyota ad currently wowing filmgoers in cinemas worldwide.
