JULIAN DUTTON
After studying English and History at Leeds University, Julian Dutton began his career as an actor, working with a wide variety of theatre companies - touring Europe in productions of Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde for the British Council, writing and appearing in his own play, THE CANDIDATE, at the New End Theatre, Hampstead, appearing in the West End with Charlton Heston and Ben Cross in THE CAINE MUTINY COURT- MARTIAL, and touring in Alan Ayckbourn's ABSENT FRIENDS. In addition, television appearances included THE BILL, and other police series JULIET BRAVO, and ROCKLIFFE'S BABIES.
In the early 90's Julian turned to comedy, performing stand-up on the London circuit and toured with Jim Tavare, Jenny �clair and Al Murray, and supported Harry Hill in the West End at the Queen's Theatre.
As a radio writer and performer Julian has written several series of WEEKENDING (Radio 4) and THE NEWS HUDDLINES (Radio 4), he was awarded the Peter Titheredge Comedy Writer's Award along with Richard Herring and Stewart Lee. Other radio work includes his acclaimed comedy series, THE HARPOON (Radio 4), which was Co-written with Peter Baynham and nominated for a British Comedy Award and TRULY, MADLY, BLETCHLEY (Radio 4), which attracted rave reviews and was nominated for a Sony. Julian's adaptation of the PG Wodehouse stories UKRIDGE (Radio 4), also earned him a Sony nomination. In addition, he wrote and performed in numerous other comedy shows, including Nicholas Parson's PARSONS KNOWS, and Denise Coffey's INSTANT COFFEY.
Radio performances include Harry Hill's acclaimed FRUIT CORNER, the hit medical comedy STRUCK OFF AND DIE and GUSH. As well as starring as Dick Barton in DICK BARTON, GENERAL PRACTITIONER, and playing the lead role in the long-running satirical comedy MAMMON.
On television Julian wrote and presented the TV documentary GOD ON THE BOX (Channel 4), and also performed in the BORE OF THE YEAR AWARDS (BBC 2), starring in sketches with Peter Cook and Richard Ingram.
He also acted as Script Editor and writer for THE LITTLE ALAN SHOW (BBC 1), starring Harry Hill, Sean Lock and Kevin Eldon.
Other TV commissions included a sitcom developed by Noel Gay TV, THE LOWER DEPTHS, and a TV version of THE HARPOON. He also performed in the TV comedy show DOES CHINA EXIST? (BBC), written by and starring Paul Merton.
In 2000 Julian was asked to co-create the highly successful series THE BIG IMPRESSION (BBC 1), with Alistair McGowan and Ronni Ancona, and has worked as a writer and performer in the show for four series and several Christmas Specials. The show won a British Comedy Award, and a BAFTA in 2003.
He has just finished writing the BIG IMPRESSION 2004 CHRISTMAS SPECIAL (BBC 1), and is currently performing on the London circuit whilst developing his full-length one-man History of the Movies, ''Sir Pat Baxter 0- My Life Onscreen.''
