Rhys Mathewson
Now based in the UK, Rhys is one of New Zealand’s youngest professional comedian. At the 2010 New Zealand International Comedy Festival, Rhys was written into NZ comedy history when he was awarded the coveted Billy T Award with his show RHYSPECT, making him the youngest ever recipient at only 19 years old. Rhys now sits amongst NZ greats and past winners Dai Henwood, Ben Hurley, Brendhan Lovegrove and Ewen Gilmour to name a few.At the 2011 NZ International Comedy Festival, Rhys performed his 3rd solo show “RHYS MATHEWSON IS FUN” to much acclaim from the critics and his audience. Rhys also made his “Comedy Gala” debut in front of 2,000 people, as well as “First Laughs” the opening event of the Wellington Festival in front of 1500 audience. He also appeared in Festival events “Late Laughs” and “Stand Up For Kids”. He was also invited to perform in the Festival’s nationwide roadshow “The Comedy Convoy” – all this, making him one of the most in demand performers of the 2011 Festival.
