MEL BARNES

Mel was born in Bristol in 1971 and from the age of 5 was brought up in New Zealand which has unfortunately given her a slightly mixed accent and personality.

After returning to England in 1989 she studied towards a qualification in the Performing Arts and later took up comedy in London for two years where she was a finalist in the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year Award. After a further two years on the circuit, Mel now works as a lawyer in London.

In 2004 Mel was a finalist for the Leicester Mercury Comedians of the Year Award and in 2005 was a semi-finalist in the Funny Woman of the Year Award.

Mel is currently working on her show ?Churchill Stole my Soundbite? for the 2007 Edinburgh Fringe, a show of observational comedy based in 1944 that all fans of guns, Panzers and wind-up gramophones should enjoy.
